What Is a Feeder and Which Type Should You Choose?
A feeder transfers material from a hopper or stockpile to a crusher, screen or conveyor at a steady, controlled rate. Keeping the crusher continuously choke-fed directly affects both capacity and wear-part life; irregular feeding wears liners in one zone and causes unnecessary stoppages.
Feed size, moisture, clay content and drop height determine the feeder type. CSP Mühendislik designs and manufactures vibrating feeders, wobbler feeders and apron feeders.
Applications
- Vibrating feeder: For dry and moderately damp material; the grizzly version removes fines before the crusher (by-pass) and increases capacity.
- Wobbler feeder: For clayey, sticky and wet material; it feeds and cleans the material, acting as a pre-screen.
- Apron feeder: An impact-resistant, long-life solution for large, abrasive material dropped from height.
Selection Checklist
- Hourly capacity and maximum feed size
- Moisture and clay content of the material
- Truck dumping height and hopper volume
- Need for pre-screening (grizzly) and crusher feed opening
Frequently Asked Questions
Which feeder suits my crusher?
Dry quarries usually use a grizzly vibrating feeder, clayey material a wobbler feeder, and very large, abrasive material an apron feeder.
How is feeder capacity adjusted?
Vibrating feeders are controlled by frequency or stroke, apron and wobbler feeders by speed; the goal is a steady feed that keeps the crusher chamber full.
