Crusher Backing: Liner Backing Compounds and Eccentric Liquid Wedge

Liner backing compounds, which fill the gap behind wear liners such as mantles and concaves in cone and gyratory crushers, and eccentric liquid wedges, which secure the eccentric bushing, directly determine crusher reliability and liner life. CSP Mühendislik supplies its own Aurox brand alongside the well-known Nordbak products from stock and provides application support.

Why Is Crusher Liner Backing Needed?

Casting tolerances leave irregular gaps between manganese liners and the head and bowl surfaces of the crusher. If these gaps are not filled, the liner contacts only at certain points; in unsupported areas it flexes, cracks, loosens and hammers the seating surfaces. A two-component epoxy backing is poured into these gaps and cures into a bed that supports the liner at every point. The result is longer liner life, a more stable crusher setting and fewer unplanned stoppages.

An eccentric liquid wedge secures the bronze eccentric bushing in its bore in cone crushers, preventing the bushing from spinning and sliding. It offers a safer application than traditional molten zinc pouring.

Product selection considers the crusher manufacturer’s recommendation, crusher size, site conditions and lead time together. Backing compound is not used in jaw, impact or vertical shaft (VSI) crushers, because their wear parts are secured with bolts and wedges.

Application Steps in Brief

  1. Determine the quantity for the crusher model, adding a safety margin and a spare kit.
  2. Clean surfaces completely of old backing, oil and dust; seat and secure the liner fully.
  3. Seal lower edges and holes with dam material.
  4. Bring the material and parts to the application temperature in the data sheet.
  5. Mix the whole kit in ratio until uniform.
  6. Pour from a single point without interruption, letting the gap fill from the bottom up.
  7. Do not load the crusher until the cure time in the data sheet has elapsed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is crusher backing?

An epoxy-based filler poured into the gap between wear liners and supporting surfaces in cone and gyratory crushers to support the liner. It is also known as crusher backing compound or liner backing.

Which product suits my crusher?

It depends on your crusher model, liner type and site conditions. Send us your model and serial number and we will choose the right product and number of kits together.

Can I get the technical and safety data sheets?

Yes. Request the current technical data sheet and safety data sheet (SDS) for Aurox and Nordbak products via our WhatsApp line or our contact page.

Do you provide on-site application support?

Yes. Our service, maintenance and repair team provides on-site support for mantle–concave changes and backing and liquid wedge application. For mantles, concaves and bushings, see our cone crusher spare parts page.
