Aurox eccentric liquid wedge

Aurox eccentric liquid wedge (also called Aurox locking compound) is a three-component epoxy-based pourable fixing material offered by CSP Mühendislik as its own brand, developed to secure the eccentric bushing to the eccentric or to the main frame bore in cone crushers. It is designed as a safer alternative to traditional molten metal (zinc, etc.) pouring methods.

The name “locking compound” is often confused on site with threadlockers for bolts. An eccentric liquid wedge, however, is not for threaded joints; it is a filler that fills the cylindrical gap between a bushing and its bore and stops the bushing from turning. For bolt-locking products, see our locking compound guide.

Why Is the Eccentric Bushing Secured?

In a cone crusher, the eccentric is the part that produces the gyrating motion of the main shaft, and it turns in or on a bronze eccentric bushing. If the fit between the bushing and its bore is not tight and in full contact:

  • The bushing spins in its bore or slides axially,
  • Oil grooves and oil holes move out of alignment and lubrication is disrupted,
  • Bushing and bore surfaces wear, temperature rises and the bushing can smear,
  • Ultimately very expensive parts such as the eccentric, main frame or main shaft can be damaged.

The liquid wedge fills the gap between the bushing and its bore completely, supporting the bushing at every point and fixing it in place. Load is distributed evenly, the bushing does not spin and the lubrication arrangement is preserved.

Properties of Aurox Eccentric Liquid Wedge

PropertyBenefit
Three-component epoxy systemMixed and poured on site; no furnace, ladle or molten metal needed
High thermal conductivityHelps dissipate and transfer the heat generated in the bushing during operation; effective in high-temperature conditions
Full-contact supportSupports the bushing at every point in its bore, preventing rotation and sliding
Safer applicationEliminates the burn, fume and splash risks of molten metal
Mechanical stabilitySupports cone crusher durability under heavy loads and continuous operation

Exact values such as mix ratio, pot life, application temperature range and cure time are given in the product’s technical data sheet. For the current data sheet and safety data sheet (SDS), contact us.

Where Is It Used?

  • Cone crusher eccentric bushing: Securing the bushing to the eccentric or to the bore in the main frame (depending on crusher design).
  • Other bushing and bore applications: Similar bushing and sleeve joints where the crusher manufacturer specifies pourable fixing.

Which crusher and which area uses liquid wedge is stated in the crusher manufacturer’s maintenance manual. In some designs the bushing is fitted directly with an interference fit and no liquid wedge is required.

Application Steps (General Framework)

  1. Preparation: The crusher is locked out, the eccentric assembly is removed and taken to a clean work area. The quantity required is determined from the gap volume, with a safety margin.
  2. Cleaning: The outside of the bushing and the inside of the bore are completely cleaned of old filler, oil, rust and dirt; surfaces must be dry.
  3. Release agent (if required): According to the crusher manufacturer’s instructions, a suitable release agent is applied to the surface that is to be separable later.
  4. Centring: The bushing is positioned concentrically in its bore with shims or centring fixtures; runout and height are measured and checked. Oil holes and grooves are aligned and plugged so that no filler enters them.
  5. Dam: The bottom of the gap is sealed with putty or a suitable dam material so that the compound cannot escape.
  6. Temperature control: The material and parts are brought to the application temperature given in the data sheet.
  7. Mixing: All three components are mixed in the packaged order and ratio until uniform. Never mix part kits.
  8. Pouring: The mix is poured from a single point, slowly and without interruption, so that the gap fills from the bottom up and pushes the air out.
  9. Curing and checks: The assembly is not loaded until the cure time in the data sheet has elapsed. After curing, centring and oil passages are checked again.

For general maintenance of the eccentric area see our eccentric bushing guide, and for the lubrication system our lubrication unit guide.

Liquid Wedge or Zinc Pouring?

In the traditional method, the gap between bushing and bore is filled by pouring molten zinc or a similar metal. This requires melting equipment and high-temperature work and involves fume and burn risks. Epoxy-based liquid wedges are mixed and poured at close to room temperature. For a detailed comparison, see our article securing the eccentric bushing: zinc or liquid wedge.

Common Mistakes

MistakeConsequence
Pouring without centring the bushingEccentric runout, uneven load and rapid wear
Not plugging oil holesOil grooves blocked with filler
Oily or wet surfacesPoor bond, porous filler
Missing or off-ratio componentsFiller that does not fully cure and stays soft
Running before cure is completeFiller is crushed and the bushing spins again

Safety

  • Wear gloves, safety glasses and suitable work clothing, and read the product’s safety data sheet (SDS).
  • Ventilate the application area.
  • Use suitable lifting equipment and a lifting plan for heavy parts (occupational safety guide).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is an eccentric liquid wedge the same as a threadlocker?

No. A threadlocker stops threaded joints loosening; an eccentric liquid wedge is a pourable filler that fills the gap between a bushing and its bore and fixes the bushing.

How many components does Aurox eccentric liquid wedge have?

It is a three-component epoxy system. All components must be mixed in the packaged ratio and order.

Does liquid wedge make bushing removal harder?

When applied correctly and when the removal method specified by the manufacturer (heating, use of release agent, etc.) is followed, the bushing can be replaced. The removal method should be planned according to the crusher manufacturer’s instructions.

Which crushers is it suitable for?

Primarily cone crushers whose eccentric bushing is installed with pourable fixing. The method stated in your crusher manual takes precedence.
